Multi-Process Robotic Cell: Automation for the Plastic Industry

Célula Robotizada de Multi-Processos: Automação para a Indústria do Plástico 7

iPlatika, a provider of plastic components for the automotive industry, was aiming to automate a part of the production. The robot cell developed by ESI made the quality control, packaging, and palletizing processes completely automatic. Keep reading the article to find out more!

Automation in the plastic industry has performed a key role in optimizing production processes, offering greater efficiency, precision, and a significant increase in productivity.

Line Operation

This cell allows the handling, packaging, and palletizing of different pieces into boxes. The line is divided in two, with each side having an injection machine and a robot. Therefore, it is possible to produce simultaneously.

First, the parts arrive at the exit conveyor of the injection machine, where the robot handles them. Using the gripper, the robot takes the part to the machine vision cell, where quality control is performed, and it is inspected whether the part is defective or not. If the part is defective (NOK), the vision cell communicates to the robot, which places it in the part rejection zone. If the parts are compliant, the robot places them in the boxes and starts packaging. In addition to the parts, the robot places an interlayer (cardboard tare).

When the box is complete, it is guided to the tape machine, where it is sealed and transported to another robot operating area. Here the robot palletizes the boxes.

Dual function gripper:

The grippers developed by ESI have a double function. One end is made up of a pneumatic gripper for manipulating the pieces, while the other end works with suction cups. Through vacuum generation, this gripper can grip the interleaves and palletize the boxes.
