Robotized 3D Printing with Cementitious Materials - Our Case Study

Case Study UM 4

ESI Robotics has successfully completed another project! This time, we've brought innovation to the construction and architecture sector. We've developed a robotic cell dedicated to additive manufacturing with cementitious materials.

Want to know more about this project? Read on!

Additive manufacturing has been revolutionizing the construction and architecture industries. Especially through 3D printing with cementitious materials. This technique not only promises efficiency and sustainability, but is also transforming the construction of structures. The integration of robotics brings even more benefits, allowing precise control of the use of materials, while reducing costs and production times.

The School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho recognized the need to bridge the gap between Architecture, Construction and Technology, and to stimulate the inventive and creative work of professionals interested in recent advances in these areas. This is how the ACTech Hub was born, where ESI installed this robotic cell.

The extrusion system makes it possible to be more economical in the use of material, to better refine the type of mixtures being used, and to use more sustainable composite materials.

"Today, one of the great challenges in construction and architecture has to do with this digitalization process, which also incorporates automation systems. Partnerships with companies like ESI allow us to start covering these challenges and doing research in these areas.

The experience of working and collaborating with ESI has been very positive. It has allowed us to implement robotic manufacturing cells and their tools in an optimized way."

Bruno Figueiredo - Teacher at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho | ACTech HUB

Additive manufacturing with cementitious materials, driven by robotics, is transforming the construction and architecture industry. With significant benefits in terms of sustainability and efficiency, this technology promises a future where construction is faster, cheaper and greener.
